Protest leader accuses Education System linked to Politics

     
PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Though the Ministry of Education is reforming its system which resulted in only 40 percents of the high school students across the country passed the exam this year, president of Cambodian Independent  Teachers' Association Mr. Rong Chhun said that Cambodia education system is linked to politics.

33,799 students or 40.67 percent passed the exam this year in both the first and the second exam.

“This years result have yet shown positive outcome in education system. And if the education sector is mixed up with politics, the system can’t be running smoothly,” said, Mr. Rong Chhun.

Hang Chuonaron, Minister of Education Ministry said that the ministry is putting its effort to standardize Cambodia’s education system.

Prime Minister Hun Sen is expecting that Cambodia’s education system is in response to globalization particularly moving forward in the same pace within Asian spirit: “ One community, one destiny.”

Mr. Hun Sen said that education is a foundation of changing livelihoods. It particularly transforms Cambodia as one of the counties with average income to one of those with high income in 2030.

“I’m trying to adjust and redirect Cambodia’s education system; we are always be active to make this system generate real potential human resource with high capacity and capability to be able to challenge with those in the region and in the world,” he said.
